Vans Half Cab ‘92 GTX
Celebrating 30 years since the initiative to innovate on Steve Caballero’s inaugural skate shoe, Vans introduce the Skate Half Cab ’92 GTX, the next iteration of the iconic silhouette, heralding the bright future of the shoe whilst acknowledging its roots in revolutionary performance. In the spirit of the skateboarders who took scissors and duct tape to the original Steve Caballero high-top, Vans offer the next level in skate shoe performance – reinforcing the Half Cab with tenacious GORE-TEX technology.
This newest model assumes the timeless aesthetic that has graced skaters’ feet since 1992, elevating the original design with premium materials and a modernised approach. The shoe harnesses a durable ripstop GORE-TEX upper, offering optimal weatherproof protection without infringing on the breathable, flexible craftsmanship promised by a Half Cab. This targeted defence against the elements is amplified by the shoe’s raised foxing and taped seam reinforcements around the heel area.
Satiny suede panelling assures deluxe softness and skate-ready proficiency thanks to its resilient complexion and superior flicking capabilities, combining with Vans’ tactful Waffle outsole - now reinforced with a SickStick rubber compound and internal heel shank for even more in the way of support, traction, and control. The toe box has also been reinforced, with a tougher toe knurl and a DURACAP™ layer residing beneath the suede to prolong the shoe’s lifespan.
The upgrades to the Skate Half Cab ’92 GTX extend beyond functional substance, with a deserved facelift refining the style of the shoe. The classic woven “Half Cab” tag is replaced by an elegantly debossed logo, providing a semblance of subtlety and fluidity with the rest of the upper; contrast stitching exaggerates the traditional panelling and meticulous detailing; the medial mid-panel is filled with glossy GORE-TEX branding, breaking up the space and providing a perpetual reminder that the Half Cab is constantly building on its legacy and Vans are always... ahem… on the front foot.
Coinciding with the shoe’s release is a loose-fitting Caballero clothing capsule – included are a warm pullover hoodie with a large, chenille applique and supple Cab branded sweatpants, completing the ultimate Half Cab collection. The Skate Half Cab ’92 GTX is available with its accompanying pieces right now, paying homage to the Half Cab’s past and providing the perfect skate shoe to see in the more unpredictable months, with hardy, winterised upgrades.
