Listening out for the satisfying rattle and roll of a skater passing by is something most of us can appreciate, but perhaps none more so than professional skateboarder Dan Mancina; aged 13, Dan was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative retinal disease that results in irreversible visual impairment.

After gradually losing his eyesight and spending some time away from skating as a result, he found his way back onto the board in his twenties to prove that he was still capable.

Unperturbed by the new challenge of skating without his eyesight, Dan adapted a unique way of skating that worked for his situation, releasing multiple video parts and landing a spot on both the adidas and Real Skateboards teams in the process.

These days, Dan suggests that he is more technical on a board than ever, consistently progressing and able to flip into flat bars like never before.

Nowadays, Dan appreciates the skating of others through sound. His favourite skater is Dennis Busenitz, recognised for his intense and audibly powerful skating, so it’s fitting that Dan’s first adidas colourway arrives on Dennis’ pro silhouette.

The shoe arrives in a tactile blend of close-napped olive suede and slick oiled nubuck, with red and white 3M reflective stripes at the sides to represent Dan’s famous cane.

Finally, the Busenitz’s iconic tongue trades its classic branding for a rubber tag embossed with braille, spelling Dan’s name. Introducing the adidas x Dan Mancina Busenitz Pro, the shoe that invigorated adidas’ skateboarding line, now dressed by a skater who has inspired thousands.
