Tony Hawk Is The Man!

Nov 2014 by Route One

Along with the likes of Mark Gonzales, Rodney Mullen and Natas Kaupas, Tony Hawk is one of the most important figures to ever step foot on a skateboard. And now, at the ripe old age of 46 the Birdhouse main man has dropped a part full of tricks that transition riders half his age couldn’t even begin to think of doing.

In his recent ‘Weekend Buzz’ interview Tony stated that he felt he couldn’t match the way things were going in vert skating, in terms of height and the advent of the mega ramp, and so instead has been looking down often forgotten avenues to see how he can still push himself and his sport.

And it’s this part that is a perfect representation of this frame of thought; exceeding hard lip tricks, combos and the like – most of which have never been thought of, let alone done - get knocked out like he’s Daewon skating a micro ramp. Don’t let his humble nature fool you, this stuff is as hard if not harder than all the theatrical mega ramp stuff and, for those that can appreciate it, thoroughly more watchable.

Thank whichever deity you prefer for his existence – we’re all richer for the skateboarding of Anthony Frank Hawk.
